For Fathers

Men trapped and pockets tapped
Spineless judges rewarding spineless women
Children punished for their parents’ indiscretions
Men who screwed without protection
Women, no wedding ring or birth control
Men, sperm you gave, but sold your soul
Now in court, you have no proof
Of who’s telling lies or telling the truth
The system will take your money
But won’t take your voice
Chromosomes XY give you no choice
Society frowns and spits in your face
Punishing even men who want a place
In their children’s lives one step at a time
But miss one payment and you’ve committed a crime
It’s cheaper to keep her–a relationship’s no cure!
Two people living as entrepreneurs
Another generation taught pain and greed
Struggling for truth, struggling to succeed
This is a perpetuated cycle that has got to end
It’s time to stand for good fathers, time to applaud real men

This was written to bring attention to and applaud men who try to be in the lives of their children regardless of their relationship status with the mother.  In this society, this type of man is not given much credit, but is financially, socially, and economically knocked down into the same category as deadbeats.  This poem also sternly addresses women who are after money and not the relationship itself, selfishly taking away from their children.  This of course does not reflect every situation and I did not write this to imply that it does.  There are wonderful single mothers….AND wonderful single dads.
